Included in the cost of your certification are your “open water” checkout dives.  These four required dives are conducted in a local lake that will vary depending on the time of year you choose to complete your certification.  At one of the lakes (Wazee) there is a small fee to gain admittance to the park–not more that about five dollars usually (and well worth it).  All other lakes have no additional costs involved. Checkouts are conducted between May and October.

Upcoming open water checkout dates:

May 6, 7, 12, 16, 18, 19, 21, 27, 28, & 29

June 7, 10, 11, 21, 24, & 25

July 1, 2, 12, 19, 22, & 23

August 4, 5, 6, 9, 17, 19, & 20

Sept. 9, 10, 23, & 24

Oct. 6, 7, 20, 21, 22, 28, & 29

Things you need to know:

  • You may pick any two days to complete your four required dives–they must be completed over two days, sorry PADI does not allow 1 day certification.
  • Be sure to call ahead to get your name on the roster ahead of time.
  • The day of your dives, we will meet at the diveshop by 7:45 am to load gear, and leave promptly at 8am.
  • Don’t forget your personal snorkeling gear and your logbook.
  • The cost of these dives and SCUBA gear rental during them is included in the course cost!
  • Bring your own swimsuit, towel, mask, fins, snorkel, boots and gloves.
  • Bring your log book!
  • If it has been over a year since you took the open water class, you will need to take a separate refresher course.
